3 Great Job Interview Tricks That Work!

3 Great Job Interview Tricks That Work! Today its more challenging than ever to land a great job. Its possible youll have to go through several interviews before you find the position youre looking for. You might feel a knot in your stomach, your pulse rate jump, and your hands suddenly perspire as you anticipate the interview. In fact, if youre prone to sweaty palms, 1: Freshen up First. Sprinkle some talcum powder in your pocket ahead of time and massage a little onto your palms before shaking hands with those you meet. 2: Break the Barrier with a Sincere Smile Jonathan, a professional sales and marketing consultant shared with a friend recently that in this job-search climate hes always on the lookout for such useful tips. Besides a warm, dry hand he claims a sincere and optimistic attitude, a smile, and looking the person in the eye, go a long way to break down initial barriers. Being friendly and forthright helps one relax and puts the hiring managers on your side. You may even want to go a step further. Find out at least one unique detail about the person who will be interviewing you. For example, one job seeker learned that a woman hiring manager was crazy about cats. He mentioned his own cat in the discussion about the job. Her eyes lit up. They had something in common besides the opening in the company. Another job seeker discovered the man who contacted him for an interview was an opera buff. During a question and answer session, the job seeker mentioned how he liked to relax on a Friday night after work by attending the opera and even suggested the company purchase a block of tickets and sell to employees at a discount. This idea sparked an interesting discussion of how to provide cultural experiences for employees. 3: You Can Be Personal AND Professional Looking to add some sort of personal touch to each interview is bound to engage at least one or two hiring managers and could make the difference between being overlooked and being hired. Heres an example of how to move the conversation in this direction. Take the lead. I noticed in your company brochure that you take good care of your employees and as a result they have a high level of loyalty to your organization. In my last job I was in charge of the annual sales meeting one summer at a resort with an Olympic-sized swimming pool. I suggested we hold our session poolside. We then invited attendees to stay afterward for a swim and drinks on the company. We even provided bathing suits in assorted sizes for those who didnt bring theirs. Employees talked about this event for months afterward. A conversation-starter such as this will provide so much more information and insight about you, your creativity, personality, and client relations than stock answers to typical interview questions. So make a plan now to be friendly, be confident, be creative, and spark the discussion with personal details that draw in the hiring manager. 5 Lessons We Can Learn from Famous Failures

5 Lessons We Can Learn from Famous Failures Failure is part of life and definitely part of success.  Most of the incredibly successful people we know have all had their fair share of failures some small, some monumental. But what it did do was teach them something and gave them a springboard to bounce off and learn from. Its easy to give up and stop trying but the secret here is to carry on, no matter how hopeless the situation looks or feels. Some of the most successful entrepreneurs you know did this, and now theyre riding success knowing they overcame endless failures and disappointments. But, when everything feels hopeless, how did they overcome the failure? Ive compiled a list of some familiar faces and their stories from failure to success: 1) Oprah Winfrey: Oprah Winfrey is a great example of someone who turned their adversity into success over many years. She started off  life in a difficult place, but transformed her situation, majored from university and then continued to experience a continual cycle of failure and success which eventually led her to having a number one talk show, and being named the most powerful woman in the world. No matter how difficult your  situation is, if you work hard enough you can overcome even the most adverse situations. Perseverance is key dont give up. 2) JK Rowling: JK Rowling is a fantastic example of a bad situation being turned around. In her own words,  â€œI had failed on an epic scale. An exceptionally short-lived marriage had imploded, and I was jobless, a lone parent, and as poor as it is possible to be in modern Britain, without being homeless. The fears that my parents had had for me, and that I had had for myself, had both come to pass, and by every usual standard, I was the biggest failure I knew. After concentrating for hours and hours on her book, it finally paid off and her talent was recognised -but this was only after numerous publishers declined to print the book.  Today, she is the 13th wealthiest woman in Britain. Let your creativity run riot. Use your adversities to your advantage 3) Steve Jobs: Steve Jobs is one of the most influential and innovative thinkers in recent years. He was fired from Apple Inc, the company he actually founded with Ronald Wayne and Steve Wozniak. In a thought provoking quote from Steve Jobs himself, we learn the power of failure:  â€œI didn’t see it then, but it turned out that  getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me.  The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again, less sure about everything.  It freed me  to enter one of the most creative periods of my life.” Embrace failure with open arms. Remember that its just an opportunity to begin something different 4) Walt Disney: Its crazy to think that one of the most ingenious and creative thinkers was once told that he lacks creativity. Disney was forced to close his first animation studio named  Laugh-O-Gram Films.  Disney then found his way to Hollywood, where his films gained steady popularity. Today hes one of the most famous  names in the world, with his movies and theme-parks loved by children and adults alike. Go with your gut. If you feel like youre doing the right thing, go with it, despite what anyone else may say. Nothing of value ever comes easy. You must work for it, through adversity. 5) Vincent Van Gogh: Vincent Van Gogh, the genius artist, never knew of his own success. By only selling one painting in his life, he was dubbed a failure   and after years of suffering with mental illness and failed relationships, the artist committed suicide at the age of 37. After his death, he became one of the leaders of the post-impressionism movement and is one of the greatest artists of all time. He would never know that despite feeling like a failure, he is now known as one the best artists in the world, with his work being held in the most esteemed galleries and shared all over the world. Success can come when you least expect it. Work hard and be humble. The greatest block to creativity is fear of getting something wrong.

7 Ways to Have a More Successful Career - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

7 Ways to Have a More Successful Career - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career Regardless of age, profession or industry, you can have a more fulfilling, more lucrative career.   You simply have to possess a burning desire, ambition and a sense of purpose. While improving your situation takes significant work and focus, making the necessary changes to set yourself up for success is well worth the effort.   With that being said, below, you will find 7 ways to have a more fulfilling career and enjoy heightened prosperity. 1. Look at failure from a different perspective. Nobody is ever defeated until they accept defeat as a reality.   The most successful individuals understand that failure brings with it the seed of an equivalent success. All who succeed in life get off to a bad start, and pass through many heartbreaking struggles before they “arrive.”   Our sales recruiting specialists have seen that one of the most common causes of career failure is the habit of quitting when confronted by temporary defeat. 2. Begin to believe in yourself.   Have faith in your abilities.   Without a humble, but reasonable confidence in your own powers, you cannot be successful or happy.   A sense of inferiority and inadequacy interferes with the attainment of your hopes, but self-confidence leads to self-realization and successful achievement. 3. Set firm goals and do everything possible to achieve those milestones.  Without clear direction as to where you want to be, it becomes virtually impossible to obtain a satisfactory career. Once you know what you are working towards, you can become more productive, map out the necessary tasks required to achieve those goals and carry yourself with a sense of purpose. 4. Clarify your values.   Character is a matter of whom you choose to be and the actions you decide to take.   Focus on being honest, healthy and positive.   Start to become bold and decisive and less judgmental of others.   Regardless of situation, always act in accordance with your values. 5. Discover your passion.  Your passions are the answer to “Who am I at my deepest level?”   Know what you love to do and focus your energy toward being able to do more of it.   Begin a commitment to further being able to pursue activities that are meaningly and rewarding. 6. Make the most use out of your time.  Very few people are as productive as they wish to be.   The majority get distracted by co-workers, spend excessive time on the internet and become absorbed by unimportant aspects of a single project. In order to ensure maximum productivity, author Heidi Grant Halvorson (Nine Things Successful People Do Differently), describes that the best way to remedy lost productivity is to implement “if-then” planning. This entails deciding in advance when and where you will take specific actions to reach your goal.   For instance, “if it is 4:00 p.m., then I will return any phone calls I have to make.” 7. Smile.  The number one way to project warmth to co-workers, superiors and interviewers is to smile. People attribute all kinds of positive things to people who smile such as happiness, attractiveness, sociability and success. Bosses are more likely to promote individuals who smile.   Clients are more apt to buy from them and co-workers tend to trust them more. This is not to mention that smiling elevates your mood and affects your mental function by increasing your sense of cognitive ease. In the End Most importantly, know what you want from your career and have the determination to stand by that desire until it is fulfilled.

When Writing My Resume Should I Use the Quizler Application?

When Writing My Resume Should I Use the Quizler Application? In this article I am going to try and answer the question: When writing my resume, should I use the 'quizler' application? For those who are unaware of what the quizler application is, here's a brief introduction. The quizler is a website that provides an easy to use interface for filling out questionnaires. It offers an intuitive design for all job seekers. The quizler is not affiliated with any recruiter so your resume will be reviewed by actual applicants and you don't have to worry about wasting time answering questions you don't understand.I have used the quizler on three separate occasions and when writing my resume I found that it was very effective. Below I provide some information on how the quiz can help you when you're writing your resume. Here's a simple test that you can take. One question you should ask yourself when you're reading over a resume is 'how does this apply to my job application?' Most resumes I read had a lot of generic information on them that didn't relate to the job position. After completing the quiz, you will be able to better assess if the information is relevant to your specific job role.Another aspect of this application that I really like is that it lets you fill out several questions to get an overview of the job applicant. This will help to give you a better idea of what the employer is looking for in a potential employee. The questions are very targeted towards the skills and job duties that are unique to your particular industry. Some of the questions will be the same as with the job description but others will be different depending on the position. The quiz creator has several features that can make the job seeker feel more comfortable. You'll be able to customize your profile, rate yourself and receive an email when you're applying for another job. I found this feature especially useful for when I'm applying for a new job. I also really like the ability to upload a cover letter and be able to track it throughout the process. If you are asking yourself why you need to use the quiz when writing your resume, I think I can answer that with another question. What do you really want to achieve with your resume? The quiz gives you the option to customize your resume and highlight the skills and other related information that you want included. The website is easy to use and does not require much technical know-how. This makes it a great choice for new job seekers. However, if you are an established career-hunter or already have the skills you would like included in your resume, the quiz is an excellent tool to use.

Career Blueprint to Your Success - Pathfinder Careers

Career Blueprint to Your Success - Pathfinder Careers Career Blueprint to Your Success A career blueprint secret to your own success already exists. You just have to take the time to discover, develop, and then deploy it. When it comes down to where you want to go and what you need to do to get there, a career blueprint is needed to help provide actionable steps leading the way. If you are not clear on what it is you are pursuing, it will be easy to be distracted and get lost along the way. Creating a career blueprint isnt easy. But they are easily discoverable. Where the heavy lifting really comes in is during execution, and that’s what deters many people. Many people just aren’t that motivated. But the ones who are driven by the goals are the ones who reach them. If you want to reach your career goals, here are some tips on developing a career blueprint that will make it crystal clear on what you need to do and when you need to do it: Identify your goals Do the research and internal exploration about what it is you want to do precisely. What is motivating you? Do you enjoy the work you are targeting? Does it match who you are and what you offer? Is it realistic now… or one step ahead in the future? Having clarity in what you are targeting cuts out the “noise” and distractions. You can dedicate yourself towards a single purpose and goal through a career blueprint that outlines  steps needed to achieve those objectives. Identify mentors / thought leaders Who do you look up to? What draws you to them? There are likely some attributes, traits, skills, experience, and position within the industry that you admire. Use these people as case studies for success in achieving those blueprint steps. Get to know these people (and not in a stalker-kinda way) by following them on social media, interacting with them virtually and online, and with in-person meetings. Sometimes, these people will become mentors. Delve into their background using LinkedIn to find out where their career path has taken them. Using their template, you can devise your own career blueprint to have a more concrete road to success. Identify your strengths / weaknesses Keeping your career blueprint in mind, it’s time to take an honest assessment of your current situation. What pieces of your career background are in alignment with the career blueprint? What pieces are missing? Being brutally honest will help you be as accurate as possible. Remember, it’s how others perceive you that matters, not how you perceive yourself. Many times, people either under or over-estimate themselves. Ask others to provide feedback on your strengths and weaknesses.   Mentors are a great way to hold up that proverbial mirror in an objective way. Trusted friends, colleagues, and confidants are also good people to ask. You can also take online assessments of your skills, abilities, and expertise. Where the gaps lie, it leads to: Identify steps needed to get to your goals A career blueprint is now in play. These are the actual steps you need to take to get from Point A to Point B: If you are missing a skill, get it through professional development to add to your subject matter expertise. But even better yet: ask for a stretch assignment. You can work with a team and build upon your current knowledge by learning from others. Volunteering is also a great place for you to acquire the skill and put it into practical application if the opportunity doesn’t present itself at your current employer. Ask for a mentor if you don’t have one. Many organizations have succession planning and encourage pairing of experienced personnel with more junior staff. Remember, anything is possible when you have a career blueprint that helps you get there.

How to Manage Your Team Effectively - CareerAlley

How to Manage Your Team Effectively - CareerAlley We may receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners.1 I think you will agree when I say: managing teams is challenging regardless of your level of your experience. Yet, managing your team effectively allows you to accomplish your goals in time and within your budget. The converse is true; if you manage your team poorly, you can only expect poor results. Turns out managing a team effectively is easy, and in this post, we show you exactly how to make your team great. Read on to learn more. Managing a team effectively is no easy task, but with the right mindset and motivation, you can do it like many other team leaders out there. Tweet This Integrity Integrity is probably the most important quality of all great leaders. Without integrity, you will have a hard time dealing with your team at any given time. For starters, endeavor to be honest and transparent at all times. Honesty shows youre a noble leader, which builds trust within your team. Lying and withholding information will only corrode the interpersonal relationships and respect you enjoy as the team leader. Integrity also means treating all members of your team fairly. source Encourage Creativity and Innovation No man can stand alone, goes a popular adage. You cannot run your organization without your team its the reason you created the team to begin with; because you needed new thoughts and ideas. For this reason, you will only be shooting yourself in the foot if you stifle creativity and innovation within the team. The more people you have contributing to discussions on how to grow the business, the better. A new idea from a team member could be the saving grace your company needs to survive an impending storm. As such, dont chastise any member of your team for expressing an opinion, so long as they do it respectfully. If you cut someone down for expressing an opinion or idea, it will build resentment and discourage people from sharing new thoughts. Managing a team can be hard and the more people that you are in charge of, the more difficult it can be. Staying in control of a large number of people and making sure that they are getting all of their work done on time is something which you get better at over time. You should, however, always make sure that your team respects you and that they know that you are there to lead rather than just be their friend. How to Manage A Great Team Set Team Goals The dream of every human resource manager or entrepreneur is to get their team to work together. But how do you get your team to work together? Its actually pretty simple. Just set team goals that each give team players a unified purpose. A common goal will inspire the whole team, unlike a per-person goal that isolates team members and breed a limited mentality. You can use tools such as Trello, Asana or Goalscape to set goals and collaborate with your team on the go. Embrace Effective Communication Every successful leader knows the value of possessing great communication skills. Without effective communication, you will have a difficult time leading your team to success. Facilitating good communication within your team (and even across the organization) helps you to detect problems early, build trust and avoid costly misunderstandings. As an effective leader, you should be ready to brainstorm, actively listen to each member of your team and clearly express your ideas. On top of that, learn skills such as win-win negotiation and assertiveness. Additionally, invest in modern communication solutions, such as Zipline, that streamline communications and task management within your team so you can focus on growing business. Build Interpersonal Relationships You dont work with a team, you work with individuals within the team. Every member of your team has unique interests, ideas, strengths and weaknesses, which means you cant adopt a one-size-fits-all approach. I mean, you cannot use the exact same approach when dealing with each member of your team. Instead, invest time in knowing each team member on a personal level. In other words, focus on the individual and mold your approach to fit each one. Focusing on each member of your team builds friendships and better rapport between you and your team members. Publicly Reward Hard Work Rewarding your team members goes beyond offering them a salary. While a bonus check is great, strive to publicly reward any member of your team who does something exceptional. Now, rewarding a team member neednt be challenging. You can vocally recognize their efforts or offer a small trophy just make sure you do it in front of the group. Why is rewarding hard work in public effective? Well, it makes the intended recipient feel great and show the rest of the team that you reward hard work. Think of it as killing two birds with the same stone. Remember to remain consistent in your rewarding scheme to achieve the best results. Take Employee Compensation Seriously Nothing is as demoralizing as poor compensation. If compensation is inadequate or late, you cannot expect your employees to perform effectively. The greatest sign of respect towards your employees is paying them fairly and on time. Otherwise, you cannot expect great performance. This is why it is important for every manager to understand the intricacies of payroll process. On top of that, consider doing annual salary reviews to ensure your employees are well taken care of year in year out. The livelihood of your employees depends on their pay, so ensure you pay them fairly and on time, or the job means nothing. source Make Work Fun All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. A great manager understands the value of keeping staffers happy at all times. They understand all work and no play results in decreased productivity, which is bad for business. You dont need to buy expensive pinball machines or pool tables to make work fun, although a pool table is a pretty swell idea any day. If you dont have the budget, however, you can go for cheaper ideas to make the workplace fun. For instance, you can arrange surprise day and night outings or celebrate small wins in your own unique ways. Socializing with your workers is also a great and inexpensive way of making the workplace fun. Conclusion Managing a team effectively is no easy task, but with the right mindset and motivation, you can do it like many other team leaders out there.
